COACHING FAQ

HOW MUCH GMAT QUANT COACHING WILL I NEED?

Everyone has a different starting point, and many have a different end point. I’ve coached students anywhere between 2 hours and 60 hours, so there’s a wide range of need out there. I will be able to better assess your need after we’ve spent some time together. Be warned, though: I’m known for my brutal honesty – so I’ll tell it to you like it is, even if it’s not what you want to hear.

HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO IMPROVE MY QUANT SCORE?

The truth is, this will depend on you more than it will on me. I can show you the way, but you’ll have to do the hard work. Improving your reasoning ability can be painful – a bit like improving your cardiovascular endurance, or increasing your muscle mass. But I’ve seen many students’ GMAT Quant scores go from the low 30s to the high 40s. So if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish anything!

HOW MUCH TIME SHOULD I EXPECT TO STUDY IN BETWEEN COACHING SESSIONS?

You should be prepared to work on your quantitative reasoning for 5-10 hours in between coaching sessions.

CAN I GET A DISCOUNT IF I WANT TO PURCHASE MANY HOURS?

I don’t offer any sort of "package" or "volume" discounts, because my goal is to get you ready with as few hours of coaching as possible. Your incentive and my incentive should be aligned. Let’s make our time together as efficient as possible, so that you can save some money and I can move on to help other students.

HOW ARE COACHING SESSIONS STRUCTURED? IS THERE A CURRICULUM?

Our time together will be spent on evaluating the types of questions that you tend to get wrong, and preventing you from making such mistakes in the future. We will start with the easiest such questions (as they’re responsible for pushing your score down the most), and we’ll work our way up the difficulty levels. You’ll find that when we apply reasoning-based strategies to the easier questions, the harder questions suddenly don’t appear that hard after all!

There’s no set curriculum, because each student needs assistance in different areas! These sessions will be hyper focused on your particular need.

HOW DOES ONLINE COACHING WORK?

I’ve taught the GMAT online since 2012, and I’ve been using Zoom since 2018. Zoom has been a game changer, as it allows me to see the student’s facial expressions. It’s honestly just as good as an in-person meeting, and in many ways better. Probably the greatest benefit of meeting online is that you can record the meeting to your computer, so you can refer back to it in the future and pause or rewind if necessary.

Please run a test meeting on Zoom at least a day before your first coaching session, so that we don’t run into any technical difficulties. In the event that unavoidable difficulties occur (e.g. you lose your internet connection during the session), we’ll add your remaining time to a future coaching session.

HOW LONG IS A TYPICAL COACHING SESSION?

Most students find 2 hour sessions to be most effective for their learning. If you have learning differences and struggle to focus for that long, or prefer a shorter session for any reason, please pick a shorter session.

CAN YOU HELP ME WITH VERBAL REASONING TOO?

Yes - I have over a decade of experience teaching Verbal Reasoning, and have scored V47 on the GMAT.
